Kirkland City Council Candidate Forum
Sponsored by The League of Women Voters of Seattle
The League of Women Voters will host the Kirkland City Council Candidate Forum on Tuesday evening, October 11 at the Kirkland Performance Center (KPC) located at 350 Kirkland Avenue. The event is aimed at heightening voter awareness of the issues and the candidates in the Kirkland city election.
Celebrating its centennial year, the Kirkland community finds itself embroiled in many issues affecting the growing city. Controversial social and economic proposals (such as Tent City and zoning) caused heated and contentious discussions resulting in disagreements among neighbors, causing the resignation of a councilmember and overflowing crowds at City Council meetings.
Meet the candidates and friends from Kirkland at a free reception from 6-7 pm in the foyer of the KPC. The forum from 7-8:30 pm in the auditorium will be moderated by League of Women Voters President, Nancy Eitreim. Both the reception and forum are free and open to the public. Free parking is available just west of the KPC in the Municipal Garage underneath the Kirkland Public Library at Kirkland Way and 3rd Street .
All City Council candidates will participate including: Arthur Best, Mary-Alyce Burleigh, Tom Hodgson, James Lauinger, Joan McBride, Mike Nykreim, John Spangenberg and Bob Sternoff.
The winners in each race will govern the city for the next four years and create the policies which will affect the Kirkland community for many years to come. This non-partisan event will provide the public with solid information for making choices on Election Day, November 8, 2005.
Questions for the candidates can be submitted directly to the League of Women Voters at: info@seattlelwv.org For more information call the League office at: 206.329.4848
