"The best Cajun band in the world." Garrison Keillor

To provide much needed support of the continuing relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina, Kirkland Performance Center is hosting a Benefit Concert starring BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet, November 1 at 7:30pm.

“KPC has presented many artists from New Orleans throughout our history, including the Preservation Hall Jazz Band last season and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band in the season ahead.  New Orleans and the deep south produce genres of music heard nowhere else in America .  The prospect of losing this great cultural resource is staggering," said Executive Director Steve Lerian . “We have joined together with three other Northwest presenters from Bellingham , Longview and Portland to sponsor this special benefit tour of BeauSoleil, a band synonymous with New Orleans Cajun music, to raise funds for victims of the hurricane.  So many musicians and their friends and families have been displaced by this disaster that Michael Doucet and BeauSoleil jumped at the opportunity.”

Proceeds from the concert will be split between Habitat for Humanity and the New Orleans Musicians Hurricane Relief Fund.  At intermission and after the concert, audiences will have opportunities to contribute to the relief efforts.  KPC hopes to contribute $10,000 or more to the the benefiting organizations.

Since forming in 1975, Grammy winners BeauSoleil have claimed their undisputed role as the most esteemed Cajun group in music. BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet take the rich Cajun traditions of Louisiana and artfully blend elements of zydeco, New Orleans jazz, Tex-Mex, country, blues and more into a satisfying musical recipe. From The Grand Ole Opry to Newport Folk, from concert hall to dance floor, the music of BeauSoleil has captivated audiences the world over.

BeauSoleil includes:

Michael Doucet - Violin, Guitar, Accordion, Mandolin, Vocals
David Doucet - Guitar, Vocals
Jimmy Breaux - Accordion
Billy Ware - Percussion
Tommy Alesi - Drums
Al Tharp - Bass, Fiddle, Banjo, Electric Guitar
